Landscape and Activities

The plain landscape. The extent and grandeur of the Tyrnävä-Liminka plain, lakeus, is magnificent. The plain is most impressive in July when the ocean like potato fields are in white bloom. The beautiful plain landscape brings a sence of peace to the mind and eye.

Tyrnävä offers various kinds of options for fitness and leisure activities.

Fishing

Tyrnävä has three rivers: Tyrnäväjoki, Temmesjoki and Ängesleväjoki. Around EUR 3,500 is invested annually into looking after Tyrnävä’s waterways. Fish and crayfish are introduced into the waters.
Fishing permits for the rivers and lakes in the area can be acquired from Tyrnävä Kiosk amongst other places. In order to be allowed to fish in Tyrnävä you will also need to pay a state fishing fee to the county.

Cycling

The flatlands in Tyrnävä offer excellent opportunities for cycling. The roads in the region are surrounded by beautiful countryside scenery and its cycle paths are well kept.

Tyrnävä belongs to the National Cycling Routes, which cover all of Finland and number a total of 72. These routes traverse the most beautiful scenery in the country, as well as cities and many densely populated areas, so they offer cultural as well as nature experiences, as well as various kinds of sights.

The routes are intended for both long and short cycling tours, and they cater for local cyclists as well as those who travel by bicycle.

Walking/Hiking

Tyrnävä is home to the Markkuu nature trail, situated in fantastic terrain. The routes to choose from are 3 and 7.5 km in length. Along the routes you will find a Lapp-style hut and two lean-tos, where you can stay overnight or maybe just grill some sausages.
Tyrnävä also has the following exercise paths:

  • Kirkonkylä exercise path, 1.6 km long and lit.
  • Kotimetsä exercise path, 2 km long.
  • Murto exercise path, 6 km long of which 3 km are lit.
  • Temmes Pesokangas lit exercise path, 2 km long.
  • Vaaranmaa exercise path, 1.2 km long and lit.

Orienteering maps are available for Markkuu (30 permanent checkpoints), Murto and Vaaranmaa.

Horse-Riding

The riding paddock in Tyrnävä is located at Ängeslevä School. It is lit and its dimensions are 30 x 60 m.
